Toxicant and Waste Discharging Management

There may be some toxicants and wastes in the process of ore mining, dressing and smelting and processing, such as waste water, waste gas, tailings, waste rocks and hazardous wastes. In order to dispose the wastes responsibly, we usually carry out the toxicant and waste management according to the international standards and relevant laws and regulations of the host country. We can reduce the environmental impact and risks through a reasonable storage, disposal and recycling.

Main Performance in 2020
  • Solid waste management goal: by 2030, the comprehensive utilization rate of non-hazardous waste will increase by 5% over 2020. Achievements in 2020: The comprehensive utilization rate of tailings increases by 1.87% while that of waste rocks increases by 1.94%.
  • Exhaust gas emission reduction target: by 2030, the emission intensity of sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxides will be at least 5% lower than that in 2020. In 2020, the emission reduction rate of nitrogen oxides per unit income was 35.71% ; The emission reduction rate of sulfur dioxide per unit income was 22.77%.
  • Waste water reduction in 2020: COD emission reduction rate was 31.3% ; Ammonia nitrogen emission reduction rate was 80.32%; The total copper emission reduction rate was 3.4%; The total zinc emission reduction rate was 8.84%.
Management Approach:
  • Gas Pollutant Management
    The dust discharged in an organized way has been treated in the precipitator. We require that the emission concentration should meet the relevant standards of the host country.
    We control the unorganized dust mainly by Fog Gun, atomizing spray device, sprinkler, wind-proof and dust-control net and closed storage. We reclaim the sulfur dioxide produced by smelting by the acid system and then make sulphuric acid products. The concentration of the pollutant has been reduced a lot after going through the acid system. Then the flue gas is further purified by desulfurization and denitrification system. Our average emission concentration of sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxides discharged is far below the national standard value and IFC Standard Value.

  • Noise Management
    In order to reduce the impact of noise on external environment and human health, we try to use quiet equipment as much as possible. And we also repair and maintain the quiet equipment regularly. We put separation, or appropriate sound barrier and/or noise containment in or near the noisy equipment (such as crusher, ball mill, etc.). We also grow green plants around the plant to reduce noises. The noises produced by the transportation vehicles on site is mainly reduced by controlling the speed and reducing the whistle. Through the above measures, we can control the noises within the standard range. We also provide necessary labor protection appliances for operators on-site such as ear plugs and ear protectors to protect their health.

    We usually have effective treatment facilities for both production wastewater and sanitary wastewater. The wastewater after treatment is used for internal production and living to the priority, and the surplus could be discharged on the precondition of meeting the discharge standards of the host country.

    We reduce the environmental impact and risk through a reasonable storage, disposal and recycling. For example, in order to reduce the stock volume of waste rocks and tailings, we give priority to underground filling and comprehensive utilization, and the rest are stored in the dumps or tailings reservoirs which meet the local national standards. We also complete the seepage prevention work according to the local standards to ensure the safety and quality of the downstream underground water.

    We do the temporary storage, transfer and safe disposal of hazardous waste strictly according to the relevant standards. We have prepared independent wind proof, rain proof and sun proof warehouses for a closed storage of hazardous waste for all the projects, with warning signs. And there are also collection canals on the floor for leakage liquid and ground flushing waste water. In addition, we also make a recycling and harmless use of waste actively.
