Mr. Mao is an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering. He is a research fellow at the Institute of Mineral Resources under the Chinese Academy of Geological Sciences, Director of the Key Laboratory of Metallogeny and Mineral Resource Assessment of the Ministry of Land and Resources, and Director of the Commission on Mineral Deposits of the Geological Society of China.

He began to hold positions in Zijin Mining from December 2019. He is dedicated to research on mineral deposit modeling, metallogeny and mineral prospecting. He has made significant breakthroughs in prospecting for concealed orebodies in China.
