    Geological exploration
    Gold, copper, and zinc resources from in-house exploration account for about 50% of the Group’s total resources. The cumulative total of in-house exploration adds 27,88 million tonnes of copper (equivalent to 23% of China’s total copper reserve), 1,207 tonnes of gold and 8.11 million tonnes of zinc (lead). Among them, the reserve of the newly discovered Kamoa-Kakula copper mine in the DRC amounts to over 18 million tonnes, making Kamoa-Kakula the largest newly discovered copper mine in the world in terms of size and value in the past 20 years.

    Comprehensive utilization of low-grade refractory mineral resources
    The Group has made technical and engineering breakthroughs in processing and smelting low-grade refractory mineral resources. Demonstration projects include: 1. 1. China’s largest gold mine - the Zijinshan Gold Mine in Fujian Province, and copper flotation and bio-hydrometallurgy systems at the Zijinshan mine with a throughput of over 10 Mtpa. 2. China’s first pressurized pre-oxidation plant for gold processing at Shuiyindong Gold Mine. 3. World’s first production line for copper-containing refractory gold ore using ammonium cyanide treatment at Zeravshan in Tajikistan.

    Environmental protection technologies
    The Group uses technology to protect the environment. It developed deep extraction, precipitation, membrane mass transfer and segregation technologies, and the technology of ecological rehabilitation of mines by transforming highly-acidic soil with neutralized slag. These technologies have led to successful transformation of the ecological environment of large-scale mines and blazed a new eco-friendly trail for efficient resource development. A number of the Group’s mines received the titles of National Mining Park, National Industrial Tourism Demonstration Site and National Green Mine.

  • Zijin School of Geology and Mining
    Zijin School of Geology and Mining
    Co-founded by Fuzhou University and Zijin Mining Group, the Zijin School of Geology and Mining provides full-time undergraduate and graduate degree education, and aims to nurture high-caliber talent in geology and mining. It is a new school set up in May 2021 through the merger of the Zijin School of Mining (established in June 2007) with the Geology Faculty under the College of Environment and Resources.
    The School now has 74 teachers and staff members, including 55 full-time instructors, 94.54% of whom have doctoral degrees and in which 17 has professor titles and 18 with associate professor titles. Among the teaching staff, one was awarded second class National Award for Technological Invention (first in line), one awarded second class for Science and Technology Progress (first in line), one nominee for the “Special Support Plan for Ten Thousand National High Level Talents”, two national candidates for the “National Hundred, Thousand and Ten Thousand Talents Project”, one awarded “Young and Middle-Aged Experts with Special Contributions”, and five provincial high-level talents.
    The School also has one chair professor (member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering), one visiting lecturer (Outstanding Young Talent), one honorary professor (member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering), and more than 80 teachers with engineering backgrounds.

    State Key Lab
    The Ministry of Science and Technology approved the decision (National Science Development Foundation [2010]718) to entrust Zijin Mining Group to establish the “State Key Laboratory of Comprehensive Utilization of Low-grade Refractory Gold Ores” (“The Lab”) in 2010. With Zijin Mining & Metallurgy Technology and Fujian Zijin Mining and Metallurgy Testing Technology playing a leading role, the Lab comprises five institutes specializing in four research directions. After four years of development, the Lab has passed the acceptance test by the Ministry of Science and Technology in September 2014. Now the Lab has developed a technological R&D team equipped with a rational knowledge structure and professional facilities. Over 80 staff members work at the Lab in charge of research, engineering technology development and management, of which 21 are professor-level senior engineers, 35 have deputy professional titles, 17 have PhDs, two receive Special allowances from the State Council and two experts are employed from overseas. In addition, the Lab leverage the power of the Open Fund of the Lab to attract and introduce the latest scientific research outcomes extensively both at home and abroad via cooperation and collaboration. Meanwhile, the Lab extends cooperation with universities and colleges to co-cultivate post-doctoral and doctoral researchers and graduates. This cooperation maintains a certain degree of personnel turnover and attract outstanding competent talents into the Lab as candidates for future academic backbones and leaders of the Lab, enhancing the lab’s capability of research and innovation.

    Zijin Mining and Metallurgy Research Institute
    Zijin Mining and Metallurgy Research Institute (or Xiamen Zijin Mining and Metallurgy Technology Co., Ltd.) is an R&D institute affiliated to the Zijin Mining Group. Playing a leading scientific research role for the “State Key Laboratory of Comprehensive Utilization of Low-grade Refractory Gold Ores” and Fujian Workstation for academicians and experts, Zijin Mining & Metallurgy Technology specializes in the development of critical technology for efficiently utilizing gold and non-ferrous resources. The Institute has established a pilot platform fixed with full sets of research facilities and equipment and a well-equipped pre-production test line to process and refine minerals and recycle waste and is thus capable to conduct research through multiple methods to run tests, examinations and actual applications. The Institute has now evolved into an open platform with clear division of work, a complete coverage of various majors and a well-structured group of professionals, where ground-breaking research are incubated and conducted.
