Top 50 of 2022 Forbes China Sustainable Industrial Enterprises

Zijin News – Zijin Mining was included on the 2022 Forbes China Sustainable Development Industrial Enterprises Top 50 list, released on February 7. The award marks a recognition of Zijin’s performance in green manufacturing, carbon neutrality, sustainability, and ESG, setting an example of sustainable growth for Chinese industrial companies.

The award aims to select green manufacturers with the most impact and strength in China. Companies were measured against five standards: management system, technological innovation, profitability, resource allocation, and experience replicability, with each standard broken down into detailed indicators. By setting a benchmark in low-carbon growth through the top 50 companies, the award encourages industrial enterprises to explore new low-carbon transition pathways and work towards carbon neutrality.

Zijinshan Gold and Copper Mine Recognized as a "National Soil and Water Conservation Demonstration Project"

Having enriched their experience and understanding of green development, more and more Chinese companies have come to perceive the low-carbon transition trend as a growth driver rather than an obstacle. As a supporter of low-carbon growth, Zijin has been committed to ecological restoration, biodiversity protection, water management, and solid waste commercialization, convinced that ‘lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets.’ As a result, many of its subsidiaries have been certified up to international standards, such as ISO45001 and ISO14001, and the company now owns 15 green mines, ten green plants, and a mining park.

Cost-effective Ammonia-Hydrogen Power

Zijin sees technological innovation as the primary driving force for the low-carbon transition. Therefore, it has kept sharpening its independent innovation capability and making breakthroughs in critical low-carbon technologies. For example, FZU Zijin Hydrogen Power, one of its subsidiaries, has built China’s first ammonia-hydrogen power station and developed China’s first ammonia-hydrogen fuel cell bus. Their technologies provide an impetus for developing zero-carbon industries by enabling the cost-effective production of hydrogen batteries. The technology was recognized as one of the top ten "Zero-Carbon China" innovations in 2022.

Climate Change Action Plan

Zijin Mining released its “Climate Change Action Plan” in January 2023, pledging to achieve carbon peaking by 2029 and carbon neutrality by 2050. The plan outlines a three-phased approach to cut emissions in the short, medium, and long term. It also lists multiple carbon reduction measures in descending order of priority: using clean fuels, substituting clean energy, employing energy-saving technologies, carbon offsetting, and carbon trading.

This action plan aligns with China's carbon peaking and neutrality pledges. In addition, it is the first plan in the Chinese non-ferrous industry to follow the recommendations of the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD). Such a commitment demonstrates Zijin’s aspiration to be a green, high-tech, leading global miner and reinforces its image as a responsible company.
