Urad Rear Banner Zijin, a subsidiary of Zijin Mining, has successfully converted a waste dump into a productive forage base, significantly benefiting the neighboring Baolige village.

“The waste dump produces enough feed for the village’s beef cattle farm, generating over 100,000 RMB(roughly US$14,000) in additional annual income for the village,” said a village official, wiping sweat from his forehead with a smile.
The waste dump was created in 2011 when Urad Rear Banner Zijin started to build the Sanguikou Lead-Zinc Mine. The company used about 66,600 square meters of abandoned sand pits of the Baolige Village to store waste rock from mining operations. The dump site averages 15 meters deep and covers 113,400 square meters in total. Since mine construction began, Urad Rear Banner Zijin has been rehabilitating the site through soil covering and greening measures, a testimony to Zijin’s commitment to Mining for a Better Society and Development for All.
Collaboration for Rural Revitalization
Since 2023, Urad Rear Banner Zijin has participated in a village-enterprise partnership program to help rejuvenate rural areas. The company signed a management agreement with the Baolige Village Committee, providing the greened waste dump free of charge for cultivating forage crops such as alfalfa, oat grass, and teosinte.
Committed to developing together with surrounding communities, Urad Rear Banner Zijin actively supports the Baolige Village in establishing village businesses. Over the years, with the joint efforts of the government, local companies, and the village committee, the Baolige Village has established a sheep farm, a beef cattle farm, a spice factory, a cattle station, and a village tourism site. These initiatives have been bringing increasing economic returns for the village.
