On August 21, leading global metals miner Zijin was named winner of the Comprehensive Value Creation Award by the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), a UK-based professional accounting body. The company earned the highest scores in both global financial management and ESG in the assessment for the first edition of the award.
Zijin was recognized for three key initiatives:
· Establishing a Financial Shared Services Center and a capital pool for its global operations
· Applying shadow-cost mechanisms to quantify environmental impacts and integrate them into investment decision-making
· Building an ESG framework known as “GLOBE” to support its international expansion
These practices provide a roadmap for miners seeking to transform into global companies.
The ACCA Value Creation Awards are the industry’s first authoritative program focused on the role of finance in overall value creation. The program aims to identify leading practices where finance functions evolve from back-office support to strategic growth drivers.
The judging panel brought together corporate decision-makers, C-suite executives, academic experts and industry consultants. It selected 24 award winners with innovative and replicable practices and significant industry influence after three rounds of review: a preliminary qualitative and quantitative assessment, in-person interviews in three locations, and a final deliberation by the full panel.
