On August 24, Zijin Group hosted celebrations for the 25th anniversary of the founding of the group in the headquarters of Shanghang County. Shanghang County is the birthplace for Zijin.

During his speech at the ceremony, Chairman Mr. Jinghe CHEN said that, Zijin will strive to significantly improve its performance by 2022 and turn itself into a globally major producer for gold, copper and zinc, and that both of its metal reserves and production will be leading the industry around the world.

China Mining Association’s Chairman Qiming PENG, China Gold Association’s Vice Chairman Yongtao ZHANG, Yuchuan CHEN who is member of Chinese Academy of Sciences, and well-known Chinese economist Xiaohua QIU, were present at the ceremony.

“Looking back at Zijin’s 25-year history of development, we deeply felt that it is our era that created Zijin,” Chairman CHEN said in his speech. He added that, as the company is growing fast on its path of internationalization, it is more important than ever before to closely bind its future with that of our nation.

Chairman went further to share his thoughts on the current economic environment. He said that, China is the world’s largest market for metals consumption, but it doesn’t have sufficient supply by itself. As this year marks the 40th year of reform and opening-up in China, Chinese economy has already entered the post-industrialized era; the peak has arrived for China’s demand for bulk mineral materials; the recent supply-side reform and environmental protection movement have pushed metal prices upward for a while, but those price rebounds don’t suggest that a market U-turn is just around the corner. 

As we are confronted with a complicated situation in the mining industry, Chairman CHEN said, Zijin should be part of China’s effort to develop a wave of globally competitive companies, and it should turn itself into a major player and competitor in the global mining industry in the future.

He pointed out that, the Group will take every effort to grab opportunities for development, put in place a good mechanism to hire talented people from around the world; it will keep innovating and treat innovation as the core competitiveness of Zijin; meanwhile, it will become comparatively more competitive in corporate governance, management model, and technological innovation.

Also, Zijin will continue to support the local economic and social development in Shanghang County, and it will stick to the concept of “Lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets” in its day-to-day business, taking every effort to protect our waters and mountains. Chairman CHEN added that, Zijin will continue to maintain a favorable environment for its employees to work, to treat their employment safety and health as its priority, so that all of its employees will continue to work in dignity and respect.

During his talk at the ceremony, Chairman Qiming PENG of China Mining Association thought highly of Zijin Group for its active role played in terms of securing the supply of overseas resources for China economic development and participating in improving the Chinese mining regulations and industry reforms. He said that Zijin has gained invaluable experience in going overseas and that other Chinese mining companies would definitely benefit from such experience. Looking forward, he hoped that Zijin will continue its role of both pioneering the Chinese mining industry and leading the “Belt and Road Initiatives”, and that it will, at the same time, continue its environmentally friendly policy for mine development.

Local government leaders, including Ms. Jufang DENG who is member of the standing committee of Longyan City Committee of CPC, Longyan City’s Vice Mayor Qinghui HUANG, Shanghang County’s Party Secretary Zangrong FU and Mayor Bo WANG, were also present at the ceremony.
