The Garatau Platinum Group Metals (PGMs) Mine is located in the world-renowned Bushveld Igneous Complex. With a large resource base and stable ore bodies, the mine holds the potential to become a large PGM operation.
Zijin Mining acquired 100% ownership of Nkwe Platinum through two acquisitions in 2015 and 2019. Nkwe Platinum holds a 74% interest in the Garatau PGM Mine, while the remaining 26% is owned by Genorah, a South African Black Economic Empowerment (BEE) company.
The project promotes inclusive and sustainable development in its host region by implementing local economic and human resource development programs and making social investments and community donations. Initiatives include skills training for local residents, bursaries for university students, drinking water projects, and the construction of community roads. Additionally, the project sponsored the first youth football tournament in Garatau, South Africa.
