China’s Ministry of Natural Resources issued the mining license for the Shapinggou Molybdenum Mine on July 28, 2023. The project received official approval of its Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) from the Anhui Provincial Department of Ecology and Environment on July 10, 2025. Work continues to secure the remaining approvals and permits related to project approval, soil and water conservation, mining rights overlap, preliminary design, safety facility design, and forest and land use.
According to its Feasibility Study, the project is expected to produce an average of 38,768 tonnes of molybdenum concentrate per annum upon reaching design capacity.
On October 21, 2022, Zijin Mining acquired an 84% interest in Jinsha Molybdenum, becoming the operator for the development and operation of the Shapinggou project.
