Development of Kakula Copper Mine Exceeds Expectations, Production on Track for July 2021
2021/01/08 7136

Development of Kamoa-kakula copper mine has moved forward ahead of schedule in 2020. The main access tunnels between the northern and southern declines were connected by the end of November and the end of December respectively, achieving two milestones for the development of the project. By the end of December, underground development of 29.8 kilometers were completed. Mining teams have reached ultra-high grade ore, at core of the deposit, with a copper grade over 8%, far higher than the global average of 0.55%. The project’s surface stockpiles now contain approximately 1.52 million tonnes of high-grade and medium-grade ore, at an estimated grade of 4.03% copper. This constitutes a solid basis for its planned production in July 2021, and for it to ramp up capacity afterwards.
