In September 2023, the village of Slatina in Bor, Serbia, celebrated Saint Lady’s Day by hosting the 30th Traditional Dance Festival, an event supported by Serbia Zijin Mining for the third consecutive year.
The partnership with Serbia Zijin Mining originated three years ago when a collective of 12 local cultural and artistic groups faced financial difficulties threatening the continuation of valued cultural events, including annual village gatherings and significant festival celebrations. These events, symbols of community cohesion, also showcase Serbia’s diverse cultural heritage.
Responding to this need, Serbia Zijin Mining entered into a donation agreement with the groups. “We are pleased to support these traditional cultural activities, underscoring our commitment to the development of local society. We hope that these cherished traditions will flourish with our support,” said Yan Minghui, Deputy General Manager of Serbia Zijin Mining, at the dance festival.
This financial support has enabled the continuation of cultural activities that might otherwise have been canceled due to budget shortfalls. As a result, the village has revitalized its cultural life, preserving and promoting traditional dances, crafts, and folklore essential for maintaining and transmitting cultural identity.
Vojkan Pavlović, the village chief of Slatina, expressed profound gratitude: “The Traditional Dance Festival plays a crucial role in preserving and transmitting our cultural customs. Thanks to the support from Serbia Zijin Mining, we can continue to celebrate our significant religious holiday with enthusiasm and collective participation.”
