Recently, Zijin Mining has set up a Qualified Person Management Committee and has chosen the first group of 16 professionals meeting international standards to be "Zijin Mining Qualified Persons." This initiative marks Zijin as China's first major mining company to form a large team of qualified persons and establish relevant corporate standards.
The Qualified Person system is directed towards facilitating investor information disclosure, guided by best industry practices, and constrained by ethical norms and market regulations. It governs the responsibilities, powers, and interests of qualified persons, including specialists in geology, surveying, hydrogeology, engineering geology, mining, mineral processing, techno-economics, and mineral rights appraisal. In the international mining sector, the system holds a crucial position because the technical reports issued by these professionals are highly credible and authoritative to investors and regulatory bodies.
Zijin Mining prioritizes and continually enhances its capacity to prepare geological exploration reports and resources and reserves statements. It has formed its own team of Qualified Persons and established corporate standards titled "Management Guidelines for the Preparation of Mineral Projects Report under International Standards," ensuring that the technical reports and resource and reserve statements comply with international standards, with sufficient transparency, materiality, and competence.
Now, Zijin Mining has 39 Qualified Persons authorized to sign off on reports under the CRIRSCO framework, including the JORC and NI 43-101 standards, covering exploration results, exploration targets, mineral resources, and ore reserves. The Qualified Person team has issued JORC-compliant reports for the Manono Lithium Project and the Kolwezi Copper-Cobalt Project, Zijin Mining’s assets in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
