On June 25, Zijin Mining was named to Forbes China’s 2024-2025 Sustainable Development Industrial Enterprises list for its outstanding sustainability practices, marking its second straight year on the prestigious list.
During the selection process, Forbes China evaluated companies across four dimensions: management systems for sustainable development, transformative technological innovation, sustainability practices, and long-term growth. In addition, eligible companies for the main list must have operated in the Chinese mainland for more than a decade and generated annual revenue exceeding RMB 20 billion (US$2.6 billion). From thousands of contenders, 40 companies, including Zijin Mining, were included on the main list. Eight other firms were honored on a separate list that celebrates innovation-driven growth.
As a company from a traditional industry with high carbon emissions, Zijin Mining was identified as a representative case of transformative change for its bold push for technological solutions and clean energy adoption. The company’s technological advances in recovering resources from low-grade and refractory ores have boosted resource extraction while minimizing the environmental impact of waste. Meanwhile, it has installed 767 megawatts of renewable energy capacity across its operations. Fifty-one percent of its electricity consumption now comes from renewables and its greenhouse gas emission intensity has dropped by 34.9% compared to 2020 levels.
