On August 5, 2025, H.E. Jennifer Geerlings-Simons, Suriname’s newly inaugurated President, praised Rosebel Gold Mines N.V. (“RGM”) for its solid performance and contribution to the economy since Zijin Mining’s acquisition in 2023, during a meeting with the mine’s leadership team. The President highlighted RGM’s exceptional results in environmental protection and eco-friendly mining.
After being briefed on Zijin Mining and RGM’s operational performance in recent years, President Simons emphasized that responsible business practices – including community investment, job creation, and environmental stewardship – play a vital role in Suriname’s path toward sustainable development.
RGM has invested US$200 million to extend the mine’s lifespan by an additional 20 years, while closely aligning corporate growth with social responsibility and environmental protection. The President noted that RGM’s approach serves as a model for sustainable mining in Suriname and stressed the importance for the company to deepen cooperation with the government and other stakeholders to jointly advance the country’s mining industry and overall socio-economic development.
