Georgetown, Guyana—On June 21, Aurora Gold Mine, a leading gold mining operation in Guyana, was named Employer of the Year at an awards ceremony hosted by ECONOME, a Guyanese business event organizer. The award was presented by Honorable Keoma D. Griffith, Minister of Labor and Manpower Planning.

Aurora Gold Mine was one of six companies shortlisted for this year’s award, ultimately sharing the top honor with N&S Algoo, a Guyanese logistics and customs brokerage firm.

In recent years, Aurora Gold Mine has remained committed to localized operations and workforce development, continuously improving its talent development framework and career advancement pathways. In 2025 alone, the company delivered 10,601 hours of training. Guyanese nationals now account for 89% of its workforce, and 140 employees received long-service recognition. Many outstanding Guyanese employees have grown into core technical and management positions.

The operation also worked continually to strengthen its occupational health and safety framework and employee wellbeing programs, to foster a safe, inclusive and diverse workplace.

The ECONOME Employer of the Year award is one of Guyana’s most influential annual business awards. It recognizes companies that consistently create outstanding workplace environments, support employee growth and foster a positive corporate culture. The evaluation focuses on metrics such as employee development, training, benefits and wellbeing, corporate culture, and employee satisfaction, while results from independent employee surveys are also considered.
