Zijin also has 12 national green mines in China and operates eco-friendly mines in Europe, Africa and South America
In early December 2023, Heilongjiang Zijin Copper, a smelter subsidiary of global metals miner Zijin Mining, was designated as a National Green Plant by the Chinese government. Based in Heilongjiang Province, China, the smelter business produces copper cathode and sulfuric acid.
Committed to sustainable growth, Zijin Mining has consistently prioritized the development of its ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) system, achieving outstanding performance in environmental metrics. The company begins to carry out ecological restoration once project construction starts. Additionally, Zijin has put in place online environmental monitoring systems in the downstream areas of its major mines across the world.
Within China, Zijin’s commitment to sustainable practices is evident in its asset portfolio: 12 national and 2 provincial green mines, along with 7 national and 6 provincial green plants.
Globally, Zijin builds “garden-style”, eco-friendly mines to standards higher than local environmental requirements. Its Kolwezi Copper-Cobalt Mine has become the first green mine in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Similarly, the company’s Čukaru Peki Copper-Gold Mine is on track to become Serbia’s first green mine, while its Buriticá Gold Mine stands as Colombia’s first green mining project.
