
In mid-January, Aurora Gold Mine, a Guyana-based subsidiary of global metals mining company Zijin Mining, was invited to attend the 171st Anniversary of Chinese Arrival in Guyana and the commissioning of the newly constructed kitchen and conference hall of the Windsor Forest Primary School in Region Three of the country.
The newly built school facilities, funded by AGM and other Chinese companies, will significantly improve the daily learning and living conditions of the pupils and teachers. The infrastructure will also accommodate and facilitate community activities.
The event was at held the school’s compound in the presence of the Chinese Ambassador to Guyana, Ms. Guo Haiyan, Guyana’s Minister of Education, Priya Manickchand, and Chairman of Region Three, Sheik Ishan Ayube, among others.
In her speech, Ambassador Guo noted that the local Chinese community is a natural bridge between China and Guyana, and Chinese companies are constructive players supporting Guyana’s transformation. She encouraged those present at the event to help forge closer ties between the two countries.
Meanwhile, Minister Manickchand welcomed and thanked the Chinese companies for investing in Guyana and contributing to local causes.
An executive from AGM, one of the major gold mining companies in Guyana, spoke about the company’s efforts in fulfilling its social responsibility and reaffirmed the firm’s commitment to helping improve local education.
