Zijin's Kyrgyzstan Unit Altynken Brings Hope and Warmth to Local Orphanage

In the tranquil town of Orlovka, Kyrgyzstan, the Nurmeaisa Orphanage stands as a haven for orphans and a cradle for their dreams.

Every morning, as dawn breaks, Kiribaeva Gulnara, head of the orphanage, carefully counts loaves of freshly baked bread that fill the air with their inviting aroma. To her, these loaves represent more than just food - they symbolize warmth, sweetness, and hope for the children.

Later in the day, many of these bread loaves make their way to the dining tables of employees at Altynken LLC, a subsidiary of Zijin Mining. Since 2015, Altynken’s cafeteria has been sourcing bread from the Nurmeaisa Orphanage. This partnership not only provides the miners with fresh, delicious bread daily but also ensures a steady income for the orphanage.

Thanks to increasing bread sales, the orphanage has seen a 35% rise in revenue. This boost in funding enabled it to take in 12 more children, raising the total to over 30. Previously dressed in second-hand clothes, the children now often receive new outfits for holidays and festivals.

"Altynken doesn’t just offer material assistance; it brings emotional support to our children," says Gulnara with appreciation. Every Children’s Day, Altynken organizes fun activities at the orphanage, filling the atmosphere with joy and laughter as the children play games and receive gifts.

Gulnara is optimistic about the future -  she plans to use the increased funds to hire teachers for various subjects, to improve the children’s basic education. She also wants to expand the orphanage’s vegetable garden to provide more fresh, healthy food for the children. The expansion will reduce reliance on external supplies and enhance the orphanage’s self-sufficiency.
