Zijin Mining’s De’erni Copper Mine Recognized as a Model for Rehabilitation in China
2024/12/03 2643

Zijin Mining’s De’erni Copper Mine, located in the Golog Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture of Qinghai Province, China, has been highlighted as one of 15 national model cases for ecological restoration of producing mines. This recognition was announced at the 26th China Mining Conference & Exhibition (China Mining 2024) by the Department of Land and Space Ecological Restoration of the Ministry of Natural Resources of China.

Situated in a high-altitude, frosty region with low oxygen levels, frequent rainfall, and short construction periods, the De’erni Copper Mine faces significant challenges in ecological restoration. The Zijin team experimented with various restoration techniques, including turf transplantation, broadcast seeding, spot seeding, sapling transplantation, and hydroseeding, to tackle the challenges. By leveraging technology and collaboration among multiple organizations, the team has established a sustainable framework for mine ecological restoration and pioneered new approaches suitable for high-altitude environments. Their initiative provides a replicable model for eco-friendly mining and rehabilitation across the Qinghai-Xizang Plateau.
