On January 8, Zijin Mining announced a donation of RMB 30 million (approximately US$ 4.1 million) to support earthquake relief efforts in Tingri County, Shigatse, Xizang. This includes RMB 10 million from Zijin Mining’s headquarters and an additional RMB 20 million from its three subsidiaries operating in Xizang—Julong Copper, Xianglong Copper, and Lakkor Resources.
The funds will be used for emergency rescue efforts, assistance for affected residents, support for rescue teams, and post-disaster reconstruction. The donation reflects Zijin Mining’s unwavering commitment to fostering "shared development" with local governments and communities. In addition to the cash donation, Zijin Mining and its affiliates in Xizang are actively providing other essential supplies to support ongoing rescue efforts.
Quick Response
Time is of the essence in disaster relief. The January 7 earthquake in Tingri County caused significant casualties and extensive property damage, with many homes reduced to rubble. Zijin Mining responded swiftly, mobilizing its local subsidiaries to support relief efforts.
Xianglong Mining, based in Ngamring County near the disaster-hit area, dispatched its first rescue team to Tingri County on the evening of January 7, the same day when the earthquake struck. Upon arrival, the team quickly coordinated with local civil affairs authorities and the rescue command center to facilitate the distribution of relief supplies and assist in rescue operations. Meanwhile, Julong Copper, based approximately 700 kilometers from the epicenter, sent a 21-member rescue team composed of personnel well-trained in mine emergency response. Equipped with two command vehicles, an ambulance, a fire truck, a rescue personnel transport vehicle, and various rescue equipment, the team arrived in the disaster zone in the early morning of January 8 to begin relief efforts.
As of 9:00 am on January 8, a Zijin rescue team had reached Tonglai Village in Changsuo Township, where they are helping restore essential community services and infrastructure.
Essential Supplies for Winter Relief
In parallel with these efforts, Zijin Mining’s affiliates in Xizang have been procuring emergency supplies to help affected residents endure the harsh winter conditions. By the evening of January 7, they had purchased 1,300 long winter coats, 1,000 quilts, 500 mattress toppers, 400 tents, as well as blankets, winter shoes, bread, and drinking water. These supplies, sourced from Lhasa, Shigatse, and Ngari, have been delivered to a central warehouse in Tingri County for unified distribution by local authorities.
