Zijin has released its first nature-related financial disclosure report, prepared strictly in accordance with the recommendations of the Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD). Using the TNFD-recommended LEAP approach and covering 57 Zijin assets worldwide, this report is the first of its kind in China’s mining industry.
The report marks a pioneering step in the company’s efforts to strengthen its natural capital management framework and enhance the transparency of its environmental, social and governance (ESG) disclosure. It also reflects the company’s push to deliver positive outcomes for nature rather than merely minimize adverse environmental impacts.
Covering 57 assets across the globe, the report applies the TNFD-recommended LEAP approach — Locate, Evaluate, Assess and Prepare — to systematically identify nature-related dependencies and impacts across the company’s operations and assess the associated risks and opportunities. With a focus on climate, water resources and biodiversity, the report draws on the company’s 2025 environmental performance to present a comprehensive view of its natural capital management.
In 2025, Zijin cut its greenhouse gas emissions intensity per RMB 10,000 of industrial value added by 35.7% from its 2020 level. The share of its renewable energy use reached 28.2%, while its water recycling rate stood at 93.6%. Biodiversity surveys were completed at 61.4% of the company’s assets. In Ghana, Zijin launched a biodiversity offset project targeting 371 Quality Hectares.
