Kolwezi Copper Mine Launches the First Batch of Cathode Copper, Annual Output Will Be 10,000 Tonnes

Zijin News April 15th-4months right after the big success of the 9-month construction of the Phase II copper and cobalt project of Kolwezi Copper Mine, its first qualified cathode copper plate rolls off the hydrometallurgical production line, indicating that it has become a large-scale copper mine with an annual output of 10,000 tonnes. Currently the company is preparing cobalt production to launch the first batch of qualified cobalt products soon.

On December 26th, 2018, the Phase II copper and cobalt project of Kolwezi copper mine started its trial production. Later on, the company continued to optimize the flow sheet and construction organization. Within 4 months, it got through all the production processes and produced the first batch of cathode copper products, establishing a new image for the construction and operation of Zijin Mining's overseas projects, and for the company's implementation of the “One Belt and One Road” Initiative. 

It is learned that Kolwezi copper mine over-fulfilled its production and operation targets in 2018, produced 58,000 tonnes of copper, achieved a total profit of more than 100 million US dollars, paid more than 55 million US dollars taxes and fees, and provided nearly 1,500 jobs.

Chairman Chen Jinghe, President Lan Fusheng and Vice President Lin Hongfu attended the copper production ceremony through video and expressed congratulations and thanks to all the staff. The government of Lualaba Province, where the project is located, also sent a congratulatory message to thank Kolwezi copper mine for its contribution in local employment and economics, expressing that it will continue to support the development of the company.
