Zijin News - On August 12, the first “Zijin Cup” Summer Camp was kicked off in the UMOJA Primary School in Kolwezi, Democratic Republic of Congo. The Camp is sponsored and held by Zijin Mining’s local affiliate COMMUS.
At the opening ceremony, students of different grades performed songs and dances with distinct Congolese flavors.
More than 600 people, including students and teachers of the primary school, parents, heads of local communities and members of the Regional Development Council, attended the event.
With over 1,100 students, the UMOJA Primary School sits in between the crushing and the smelting quarters of COMMUS.
The summer camp will be held for three weeks and will feature sports games, general knowledge quizzes, art workshops, and field trips to COMMUS’s mining concession.
According to company officials, COMMUS hopes to bring the young minds more knowledge and fun during their summer break and to engage members of host communities through the activities, thus strengthening its amicable, harmonious, and mutually beneficial relationship with surrounding communities.
